Judges Chapter 1
Mediocre Christians
The people of Israel inquired of the Lord as to who should go up against the Canaanites in battle. So Judah and Simeon’s tribes went into battle and defeated many of the cities the Canaanites were in. Many places were defeated but there were a few drawbacks:
1. In one of the valleys they couldn’t drive out all of the people because they had iron chariots.
2. Some of the tribes didn’t drive out all the Canaanites which resulted in them living amongst God’s people.
It’s easy to get lazy with one’s spiritual life. It’s easy to settle for mediocracy. God called for all the enemy to be driven out so that no one would be tempted with their false gods. But Israel became content with life even though it wasn’t what God wanted.
It’s easy for us to do the same. We become content with fulfilling our Sunday duties of going to church but the rest of the week we get sidetracked with the pleasures of the world or with the friendships within the world that actually aren’t healthy for us spiritually. May we do what is necessary to drive out any form of evil in our lives so we can give God 100% and not just 50%. Let’s not be just Mediocre Christians.
