Why Didn’t You Ask For The Lord’s Counsel?
All the surrounding Nations were in fear of the Israelites and many came together to join in a battle against the Israelites. However, the Gibeonites pretended to be from a faraway land and asked Joshua and his leadership to promise not to destroy them and in return they would be their slaves. So Joshua and the leadership did not seek the councel of the Lord and believed in their story when in reality they were a neighboring nation. But Joshua and his men gave an oath not to harm them and in return let them be their slaves. The Israelites were angry with Joshua and the leadership for believing in their deception.
I can remember looking at a business opportunity which I was given counsel by someone not to pursue it. Deep down inside I felt I shouldn’t, but there was a part of me that wanted to believe it would be a great idea. Despite my friends councel, I didn’t listen and did it anyways and I got lost the money we invested. I was deceived.
Such deception is a reminder to take EVERYTHING to the Lord in prayer. Whether he speaks to us through his still small voice, or the Scriptures, or through the counsel of others, may we listen and obey his voice. If you are still not sure if it is the Lord speaking, then seek the councel from three Godly people. Ask them to pray on your behalf and see what God says through them. Just be careful because it’s easy to be deceived.
