Joshua Chapter 20
Finding a Place of Refuge
Joshua was commanded to designate 6 cities as a place for refuge.
The cities were not designed to protect convicted criminals but only to protect those who accidentally killed someone. And even then they had to stand before trial to ensure it was an accident.
Unlike today, refuge cities are designed to protect criminals from being tried and convicted whether they are innocent or guilty.
Sadly, such individuals are never held accountable for their behavior and become a threat to our society.
But, before I get too self-righteous, we all will one day be held accountable before God on Judgment Day. We may think we are exempt from being held accountable for our spiritual lives, but we all will face judgment and if repentance from sins was not a part of our lives then we will be held accountable for our sins. God becomes our place of refuge when we find Grace and forgiveness because of our faith and repentance.
If you’re holding on to sin, deal with it now versus thinking you won’t be held accountable for your sin.
