Joshua Chapter 17
Sin Is Persistent
Though the Israelites had driven out the enemy from so many cities, the enemy kept coming back to live among the people. Instead of driving out the Canaanites they use them as forced labor or just let them stay among them. But they feared the Canaanites because of their military power. They didn’t believe in the power of God to overcome and defeat the enemy.
Sin is the same way. Once we give our lives to the Lord, Satan continues to attack us and tempt us into sin. And usually, there’s at least one area we struggle with the most and instead of surrendering it over to the Lord for victory, in our discouragement, we allow ourselves to keep entertaining the sin and say it’s too hard to overcome. Thus we forget about the all surpassing power of the Holy Spirit to be able to help us overcome any sins.
1 Corinthians 10:13 and 1 John 5:4 and Galatians 5:16, are three passages that are great reminders of God’s power made available to us through the Holy Spirit. Let’s be overcomers when sin is persistent.
