John Chapter 8. Believe. Follow. Obey.
- Jesus declares himself as the light of the world and if we follow him we’ll never walk in darkness. In fact, Jesus said unless we believe in him we will die in our sins. He goes on to say how important it is to hold to his teachings. Obedience is evidence of really being a disciple of Christ.
This chapter takes me back to a question Jesus had asked his disciples:
“Who do you say I am?”
That’s a question we must answer. Who do we say Jesus is?
Do we believe he is the son of God? If yes, then do we follow him? To follow Jesus is to obey him and his words, just as the psalmist said in Psalms 119:9,11 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I’ve hidden God’s word in my heart that I might not sin against him.”
As long as we are obediently following Jesus, we’ll walk in the light of righteousness or righteous acts. Once we let our eyes drift toward the lust of this world, we sin and walk in darkness.
BELIEVE! FOLLOW! OBEY!
