John Chapter 16. Why do we worry so much?
Jesus shares with his disciples how he will be leaving this Earth and going to be with his Father. But when he leaves he will leave with us his Holy Spirit that will empower us, convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. His Holy Spirit will guide us in all truth.
But also, the Holy Spirit will fill us with joy because of Jesus in our lives. His Holy Spirit wants to fill us with joy in and through all circumstances. It is important to know this is for us because in this world we live we have trouble and anxiety and fear. But take heart, because Jesus has overcome the world and wants to give us his peace so we can trust him through all the troubled times and not have fear and anxiety but have his peace and joy.
Are you joyful? Do you have a peace within you despite what you are going through and despite your current life circumstances???
This is hard for me to constantly say YES to. I think, for me, the reason I can’t consistently say yes to his joy and peace that he offers me is because of my lack of faith and trust in him. If I truly believe God is in control then I shouldn’t have to worry. I would be confident that all would work out and therefore would be joyfully, by faith, waiting for his intervention. But my faith fails me and I let worry overcome my joy and peace rather than trust what Jesus has said:
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
