John Chapter 15. Bear fruit!
We are all to be bearing fruit and Jesus makes it clear how we are to do this: Jesus says he is the vine and we are the branches that are connected to him. God is the gardener and he cuts off any branches that aren’t bearing fruit and he prunes those that are. So the only way we can bear fruit is to stay connected to the Vine which is Jesus. And apart from Jesus we can’t do anything. Any branches cut off are burned which tells me that faith is more than just words, it’s also action. If our life is not a testimony of our faith then our faith is dead. James said, “faith without works is dead”.
So let us stay connected to Christ and bear fruit that brings glory to God. And God will prune those who are bearing fruit which means he will always be challenging us to be all that we can be for him. Pruning is a painful process that we will go through but may we be faithful and persevere.
Later, Jesus said that if we are connected to him then we can ask whatever we want it will be given to us. But the asking is directly connected to whether or not we are producing fruit that brings glory to God. God is not looking for us to ask selfishly, but an asking that will bring glory to his name. An asking that results into bearing fruit.
So stay connected to Jesus. Bear fruit that gives testimony of his name. And let your request be known to God and may it bring Glory and honor to his name.
