Job Chapter 9
It’s hard to have Faith and Trust in God.
Job begins by saying who am I to question God? If he wished to dispute God, he can’t even begin to answer him. God’s wisdom is so far beyond us and his power is vast. Even in our innocence, Job says we can’t dispute him. Our wisdom is no match for his.
As I look back and reminisce of days of trouble, or think of the times I listen to those who share their own struggles, I have often said, “I don’t get it!”
As I pray for loved ones during my prayer walks I think of how they feel God has abandoned them, and I pray to God, “I don’t get it!” In my limited wisdom, I feel I can offer little or no encouragement to help someone through their struggles. If I were God, I’d answer their prayer and answer it their way. But seriously, who am I to question God? My wisdom is foolishness compared to His wisdom (1st Corinthians 3:18-19). Foolishness!!!!! The quicker I understand this, the better off I am. God’s wisdom settles into the fact that he knows all things, he sees all things, he sees yesterday, today, and tomorrow all at once. We see a little minute picture of our life while God sees every detail of our life from before the beginning of time till eternity. So we argue and question God based upon that one minute aspect of our life that we can see, which is basically nothing compared to what God both seas and knows. He knows what is best because of the fact he sees the big picture and has the best outcome. His every move is motivated by love. Just like when he went to the cross for us. So when he bypasses our wishes and desires, he’s not doing it to make our life miserable, but to get us to his plan which is better than ours (Isaiah 55:9 and Jeremiah 29:11).
But it’s hard to have Faith and Trust in God! It requires me to surrender my plan (which by the way, makes perfect sense to me because of my limited wisdom) and accept his plan (which is motivated out of love for me). That is hard. But if we would but persevere and not give up, we can reap the rewards and joys that come with his plan.
Don’t let your plans and wishes hold you in bondage and keep you from receiving and being all that God wants and has for you.
