Job Chapter 3
There is Hope!
Some friends of Job came and sat with him while he was in great pain. They were all together seven days and seven nights without speaking a word. Finally Job spoke and cursed the day he was born. His pain was so much that he wished he’d never been born.
As a college student, I faced some difficult times (as all do). I felt trapped in a situation and couldn’t see any way out. It was constant and ongoing for over three and a half years. There were a mixture of emotions: “God, where are you?” “God, I hate you!” Suicide was never an option but I often thought I could see why it was for those not grounded deep in their faith. Amongst all these mixed emotions there was always this little voice deep down inside that made me feel that somehow God was in this mess and allowing it for a reason. I couldn’t see it! I didn’t understand it? I wished all the feelings of being trapped in this chaotic life would stop, but it kept going on and on.
After 4 years, God began to bring me out of this pit I was in I began to see how all those days were actually trimming me of my rough edges of life. I could see how it was shaping me to be a more mature man of God. I began to look at life differently. I was becoming more confident as a person as God eliminated, little by little, my feelings of inferiority. I began to become less selfish and more attuned to the pains of others and not just my own. I was more empathetic and encouraging to those hurting because I could understand their pain.
Today, if God would let me take back those four years and have a “BETTER” life, would I do it? NO! I would not be who I am today if it weren’t for that. I can thank God now. May my learning experience enable me to thank him in future “pit” experiences.
Let me say this, please,
There is HOPE in Jesus!
