Job Chapter 27
Be A Person Of Integrity.
Job makes it clear to his friends that even though God has made his life bitter, he will never admit that his friends counsel was accurate when they said he was suffering because of sin in his life. Job said he’ll go to the grave declaring he was a man of integrity and was innocent of any sin. He said even his conscience is clear of guilt.
I remember years ago I was on the board of Edinboro Camp. We were looking for a new executive director and had a number of resumes. One particular person truly believed he was going to be picked as the new executive director. I had my concerns but did not rule him out. But a couple board members did not see a good fit at all. The board was getting frustrated because of not finding a good fit with any particular resume. So they asked me to put in a resume. To make a very long story short, let me just say, I put my resume in and stepped down from the board because of conflict of interest. After a long period of time, the board asked me to be the new executive director.
When the individual, who was confident he would get the position, found out I got the position, he called me up and accused me of manipulating the system for my benefit. I tried to explain that was not at all the case. His closing words were, “I will go to my grave believing you did an evil manipulative thing for your selfish benefit.”
Those were hurting words, but what enabled me to not be destroyed by those words is I knew I operated with integrity and my conscience was clean.
There definitely is a peace that one can carry with them when they operate with integrity of heart, regardless of any accusations that come against them. The bottom line to me is, how does God see your heart versus how does man interpret your heart? Are you in good standing with God? Are you a person of integrity? What do you have to do to get there?
