Job Chapter 2
Don’t Speak Like A Foolish Man Or Foolish Woman.
Once again God has a conversation with the devil regarding Job’s faithfulness and integrity. Satan claims that if Job’s body was cursed that he would then curse God. So the Lord gave Satan permission to touch Job’s body but not to kill him.
So of course, the devil goes all out so that he can get Job to curse God. Job is covered with boils from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. It says Job was in great pain.
Job’s wife, in her frustration and anger with God, tells Job to curse God and die. Job responds to his wife saying, “You speak like a foolish woman.” Then he proclaims that we should have integrity toward God during both the blessings and adversities of life. Job did not have a breaking point where he cursed God.
What’s my breaking point? When am I most vulnerable to curse God? For me, it’s when we have faced deep financial burdens. If people could hear me in my moments of financial adversities, they would hear me curse God and probably say, Blair, you speak like a foolish man.
What’s your breaking point? What adversities do you find yourself in that result in you cursing God? Why is it we can display such great faith and integrity when things are going wonderful but later to act as a foolish man or foolish woman when things are not going so well?
Lord, help us to be like Job when we face the blessings of life and the adversities of life.
