Jeremiah Chapter 25.
Is It Worth It?
God commanded Jeremiah to take a cup with wine in it and have all the nations drink from it. It is the cup of God’s Wrath. So Jeremiah went to all the nations and kings, over 20 of them, and had them drink the wine and prophesied of God’s coming wrath. A wrath that no one will escape.
This is interesting. Can you imagine going to all the nations and warning them of God’s coming wrath. Can you imagine all the traveling and walking Jeremiah did? How long it must have taken? Obstacles and resistance he would have faced? Yet he did it. I wonder what Jeremiah would have said if God asked him, “Was it worth it?” Does it matter what he would have said? Not really, because God told Jeremiah to go so then it’s worth it. The obstacles and trials and tribulations along the way are irrelevant to the worthiness of it. The big picture is reaching the lost and hurting. Probably the bigger picture is our obedience to God’s call.
In Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the gospel and make disciples. “Well, that’s not going to be easy.” If God is calling us to go, then let us not forget his promises: he will never leave us nor forsake us, we will be empowered by the Holy Spirit, and he will equip us.
Is it worth it? Yes! Reaching lost souls is worth it. Making disciples is worth it. Jesus went to the cross. There was nothing easy about that. But love for the father and for us, drove him there. May we have love for the father and for lost souls so that we are compelled to joyfully go regardless of the outcome.
