Isaiah Chapter 46
Who Or What Sustains You?
God declares to Israel, quit serving false gods. God calls them into a relationship with him for he, and he alone, is the one who can sustain them, carry them, and rescue them.
Yet, many Israelites took their gold and silver to a blacksmith and had them melt their money into an idol that they could worship. They set it in a place for worship but it can’t move. It just sits there. God asks, how can it help you? It can’t move. It can’t answer prayers and questions. It can’t save you from troubles. Only God Almighty can.
Like Israel, don’t let money be what is focused on for joy and fulfillment in your life. 1st Timothy 6:10 says, “Money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
Is money your go-to option when it comes to seeking happiness, joy, and fulfillment? Do you see something you want and buy it and find temporary fulfillment? Then you see something else, buy it, and find temporary fulfillment? You keep doing this and after a while you become totally reliant upon money to bring joy in your life which is only temporary. God, however wants to give us joy that actually sustains us in and through all circumstances. Even when we lose money, lose our job, lose our home, lose a loved one, lose everything!
Let money be a blessing from the Lord and for the Lord. Yes, work hard, have an income. Pay your bills. Allow God to bless you with things to enjoy but don’t let it be your go-to for joy only to have to wait for the next thing to buy for temporary fulfillment. Don’t let it replace the one and only true God who can sustain you!
