Isaiah Chapter 41
Break Down My Idols!
God Is Calling All Nations together for judgment because they have served false gods/idols. He gives their idols a chance to speak to see what great knowledge they have; to see if they know what was and what is to come. But nothing comes from their mouths. They are nothing. They are dead. They are worthless.
I mentioned yesterday how sports have become an idol in our world today. I was a runner in high school and when I stand before God on judgment day, he won’t ask how fast I ran a race. If I try to brag to God about all my accomplishments at counties, districts, and states, my words will be hollow, nothing, worthless, dead.
God will be much more concerned with my heart towards him. Was my sport of running a tool I let God use to bring glory to his name? Or was I so consumed with running that I lost my first love for the Lord? Did my Bible sit lonely on my nightstand? Was I too busy to pray unless I was praying “God let me win my race!”? Was church no longer “necessary”? Or was my passion only for Jesus so that I did not let sports stop my pursuit of God? Was I still longing for God’s word and on my knees in prayer? Did I find my thirst for God quenched when surrounded by Christian people in church singing praises to God and learning from the Scriptures? Was running only a tool I let God use to bring glory to his name?
Lord, break down any idols I have so that all that I do and say accomplishes these three things:
1. It’s done For Your Glory only.
2. It helps point people to Jesus.
3. It never diminishes the time I spend with you in prayer, and Bible reading, and in Fellowship within the church.
