II Samuel Chapter 3
Unforgiveness Kills
The commander of Saul’s army was Abner, an enemy of David. But Abner was greatly insulted by Saul’s son, the king over the 11 tribes. Abner was so angry that he swore he would help David become king over ALL Israel. So Abner made peace with David and swore to help him.
When David’s commander, Joab, found out, he was enraged because Abner is who killed Joab’s younger brother in a previous battle. So Joab met with Abner privately and killed Abner.
David mourned Abner’s death because he trusted Abner’s change of heart, but Joab hated Abner and Unforgiveness kept him from seeing Abner had changed.
It’s amazing how we let our feelings control our attitudes and behaviors. We become bitter vs. forgiving. We should never let anything CONTROL us including UNFORGIVENESS.
