Hebrews Chapter 9
Confession/Forgiveness.
A continual comparison is made between the Old and New Covenant.
The first covenant, before Jesus, had a tabernacle, made with hands, with a room called The Most Holy Place. This is where God resided and is where the high priest entered once a year making sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of his and the peoples sins.
Such sacrifices were not sufficient to clear the guilty conscience of the people. This was a temporary fix for sin as they waited for the New Covenant, Jesus.
Jesus is the high priest for the New covenant who offered his body as the sacrifice for all people, once and for all, providing an eternal redemption. Jesus didn’t enter The Most Holy Place before God in a building made with hands, but instead entered The Most Holy Place In Heaven with God.
Again, his sacrifice was once and for all, an eternal redemption, setting us free from the penalty of sins.
Such freedom doesn’t give us the freedom to sin whenever we want. To receive Christ and his forgiveness and salvation requires a change in our hearts and attitude. It means we want to turn from sin and we want to live a holy life with Jesus. And if we happen to mess up, and we will, we can go before God and ask for forgiveness and he promises he will forgive us our sins.
1 John 1:9 says: “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
