Hebrews Chapter 8
What’s are the Main Points?
In the chapters previous to chapter 8 there’s a discussion about the earthly priests and Jesus as the heavenly priest.
In Chapter 8, the writer gives the main points of this discussion:
1. Jesus, as the high priest, serves from a position of authority, seated at the right hand of God in heaven. The earthly priests never sat in authority because their work was never done. They were constantly having to make sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins.
2. In the Old Testament, God dwelt within a building. But today he wishes to dwell within the heart of every person through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
3. The old covenant is obsolete because no sacrifice for sins is needed. The New covenant is Jesus Christ, the perfect sacrifice and the hope for all people.
4. The promise of the old covenant was the coming of a Savior! Jesus is that Savior thus fulfilling the old covenant and he is the New covenant that points to a Promised Land in Heaven with God. The Israelites went to a promised land on Earth that was temporary, but Jesus wants to take us to a heavenly promised land that is eternal.
