Why Was He Chosen By God To Do God’s Work?
Melchizedek was a priest, chosen by God, even though he was not a Levite. Only Levites were to be priests, but God called him.
Melchizedek means King of Righteousness and he was King of Salem which means King of Peace.
Jesus is like Melchizedek because he WAS the king of righteousness and king of peace. He was from the tribe of Judah which is not where priests were called from. He got chosen to be our priest who sacrificed, not animals, but his own life for us.
His sacrifice was once and for all and because he lives his sacrifice is relevant for all the human race.
Melchizedek was called to carry out the duties of God even though he was not a Levite. We two are called by God to carry out the duties he has assigned us.
Our duties are to take the message of Jesus to the world. And just as Melchizedek was gifted by God in order to be a priest, we too are gifted by God so that we can reach people for Salvation through Jesus.
