Genesis Chapter 38
Your Sin Shall Find You Out.
Israel’s son, Judah, got a wife for his son Er. Her name was Tamar. But because Er was evil in God’s sight, God took his life. The next brother was by law to take her as his wife and have a child with her on behalf of the older brother. Because he didn’t want to have a child with her, God also took his life. The next brother in line was very young so Judah said as the boy got older she could take him as her husband. But Judah kept his son from her. Because she wanted to be with child she pretended to be a prostitute. She was disguised and Judah, her father-in-law, did evil and did lie with her. She became pregnant by him.
Later, when Judah heard she was pregnant, he was ready to have her burned to death because she was to have child with no one but his younger son that he kept from her. But when Judah and the others found out Judah was indeed the father, he said, “She is more righteous than I.”
Judah’s sin had found him out… it was exposed. Judah was humbled by this before the people.
What are we tempted with? What sin are we flirting with? Confront it now and take care of it because eventually our sin will find us out and be exposed to the outside world. Also be careful how you confront others living in sin. Do so with Mercy versus condemnation and gossip.
