Genesis Chapter 30
The Battle Of The Sisters.
There was so much jealousy between the two sisters, Leah and Rachel. You see sibling rivalry throughout this chapter. They each have to try and outdo each other with the number of sons they have with Jacob their husband. They even give their own servant to Jacob as a wife, so any children the servants have the sisters can call their own. They have to outdo each other.
It’s amazing what jealousy in a relationship can cause us to do. It causes us to make irrational decisions just so we can outdo or keep up with another person.
I remember as a child, that when my parents bought something new, a car or tv, that my grandma did so right afterwards. As a kid, I wondered why she did that?!?
Why do we try and be like other people? Why do we have to outdo others? If only we all, including myself, could see we are all created by God with certain gifts and abilities that God can use to glorify himself with.
So if God thinks we are that valuable and important to give us specific gifts, why are we putting so much emphasis on trying to be like someone else or even out do them? Let us put more emphasis on being all God wants us to be and take joy in who he created us to be versus thinking we are less significant and exhaust ourselves to be like someone else.
Dear Lord, thank you for making me – ME!!! Help me strive to be more like you versus trying to be more like my neighbor whom I’m jealous of. Help me to be confident in who you created me to be so that I am able to love others and be happy for their gifts and successes. May they and I joyfully work together in order to bring great glory to your name and All impact the Kingdom of Heaven together.
