Genesis Chapter 29
Looking For Love In The Wrong Places.
Jacob travels to find his uncle Laban so he can find someone in his family to marry. Eventually He finds and meets Laban’s two daughters Rachel, the youngest, and Leah, the oldest.
He makes an agreement with Laban to work for him 7 years in exchange for Rachel, but not Leah. Jacob loved Rachel but not Leah.
After 7 years they have a wedding ceremony and when evening comes Laban gives Leah to Jacob deceptively. In the morning Jacob is furious that he did not have Rachel. So Laban agrees to give Rachel to him as long as he works for him seven more years.
As the drama unfolds, can you imagine how Leah felt? She’s never felt as pretty as Rachel and her self-esteem was low. She wanted to feel loved. God looked over Leah and allowed her to have four sons. Each time Leah had a son she thought her husband would love her but he didn’t. After the fourth son, she finally said praise to God verses saying I want my husband to love me.
This is sad but is a picture of so many girls and women, and males. They’re looking for love and look for it from their peers, or in sexual relationships, or from their parents but never feeling good enough. For some, they come to a point when they realize God is the only one who will give true love that’s not selfish. Love that shows value, worth, purpose, and hope. A love that is never ending.
I pray we all can find our source of love through a relationship with Christ and then display that love to others without being selfish. Yes, I pray people will love us but some won’t. Humans love fails, but God’s love never fails. Turn to Christ today for that love and salvation.
