Genesis Chapter 25
See! We Can Get Along! Or Can’t We?
Sometime after Sarah’s death, Abraham remarried. He had six more sons and lived to be 175 years old. After his death, his two sons, Isaac and Ishmael, together buried their dad on the property Abraham purchased from the Hittites.
The two brothers were separated for quite some time because of having two different mothers. A certain hatredness existed between the two.
It’s amazing how death can bring a family together, but sometimes it exposes the hatredness that exists between family members. Let that be a lesson to us to have our hearts right before God so that we don’t let the mishaps of family experiences control whether we love or hate one another.
We see that after Isaac and Rebekah have their two sons eventually the two didn’t get along. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob his younger brother for food. From that time on, Esau hated his brother.
We may all have some kind of hurt that occurred as we grew up amongst our family. But we get to choose whether we love them or hate them! Or whether we love them or despise them.
Is healing needed between you and a loved one? They may not be ready for it so at least offer forgiveness so you can live in peace rather than hatredness. They may never respond but at least you’re right before God.
