First Chronicles Chapter 10
Keep and Ask
This chapter reflects back on the day when Israel and the Philistines went into battle and Saul and his sons were killed. The Lord took Saul’s life because he sinned against the Lord in two ways. It says:
1) Saul did not KEEP the Lord’s commandments. The Hebrew word for KEEP is “shamar” which means not just to keep but to OBSERVE and MAINTAIN for a PURPOSE. It is hard for us to keep God’s word if we are not observing it with our heart and soul. We do so for a purpose, that we might receive his great reward.
2) Saul ASKED the mediums for direction. The Hebrew word for ASKED is “shaal.” It means asking in a DEMANDING manner. Saul is demanding an answer from the medium. He’s investing his heart and soul into this spirit/person for an answer which means he put zero trust in the Lord. This is a dangerous place to be. May we take everything to God In prayer as Paul said in Philippians 4:6.
CHALLENGE: May we seek the Lord with all our heart and soul and ask him ONLY for all aspects of Our Lives putting our trust in him alone. Let us remember what God said in James 4:2-3 says, “We do not have because we do not ask God.”
