Exodus Chapter 20:1-3 Only
You shall have no other gods.
I’m doing chapter 20 of Exodus over a period of a 10 days because I want to look at each of the 10 commandments in depth and study how I can truly make them real in my life. So here we go:
Commandment #1:
God said, “You are to have no other gods before Me.”
We often feel this means no man-made idols only. But if we exalt certain people, hobbies, passions, things, even our political party, more than we worship God, then it’s become our god. To keep God first is to allow him to influence and impact how we treat and see other people or things, or how we live out our hobbies and passions for his glory and not ours. My political party, whether I’m a Democrat or Republican or Independent, should not drive what decisions I make for this country nor should it be what establishes my values and my morals. God has to be what drives my decisions and determines my morals and definitely not my political party. As great as your political party might be it’s not God nor should it be treated as such.
Once we let any of the above examples become our god, then we immediately begin to compromise the truth of God’s word. Be careful my friends!
