Exodus Chapter 14
Make a Choice: Whine and Complain or Trust in God.
The Israelites just saw many miracles from God demonstrating his power through the plagues. Now they see God deliver them out of Egypt. But God is always at work to bring glory to his name, so he allows them to look like they’re aimlessly going through the wilderness. He does so, so that Pharaoh will chase them with his army. When the Israelites see his army with the chariots and horses they immediately lose faith and trust in God. They immediately begin to whine and complain how they’re going to die. But God delivers them by opening the sea so they can walk to the other side on dry ground. And then he allows the Egyptians to pass between the sea only to end up having the sea close up on them and kill them. Then the Israelites went from whining and complaining to fearing the Lord and believing in him as God and believing in Moses as a leader.
Why is it so easy to whine and complain and then when God does a miracle we praise him. Why do we have to wait for the miracle? Why can’t we learn to trust the Lord while waiting for his plan to carry out?
At best, I can say I’ve gotten a little bit better at this. Sadly, though, I still have a long long long ways to go.
