Ecclesiastes Chapter 9
There Is Life After Death.
King Solomon sees death as a final destination. He says in verse 5, “For the living know they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.” If this statement was true it would be a very gloomy truth giving us nothing to look forward to in life.
As wise as King Solomon was, he missed the understanding of life after death. Though you can’t blame him because he didn’t have the teachings of Jesus who spoke clearly of a life after death: heaven or hell. If King Solomon was alive today he would have written verse 5 differently.
Those living in Christ know they will die physically but they have the hope of living with the Lord forever in heaven. Heaven is their great reward because of their faithfulness to the Lord on earth. And their name is never forgotten by the Lord because of his great love for each of us. He gives us enormous value, worth, and purpose.
I feel bad for those without Christ on Earth. Because they rejected God’s only means for forgiveness of sin, they face the eternal lake of fire called hell. They will receive their just reward and their names will be forgotten.
Oh that we would have a love and concern for lost souls like Jesus did so that we might win some over to this new life with Christ on earth and in heaven.
