Ecclesiastes Chapter 5. That’s What Fools Do!
In this chapter, King Solomon writes that we should beware how we approach God so as not to act like a fool. He gives a few examples of what a fool does.
1. When you go before God at church or in your prayer time, be careful of the attitude you bring before him. A fool forgets just how holy God is and just how imperfect or sinful they are. When we enter before God, we are wise to say very little lest we boast of our own goodness. We are wise to approach him in humility recognizing our sin and our need for his grace.
2. We are wise to recognize our need for God versus acting like a fool who says, “God, you need me!” Any gift we have comes from God so we should humbly surrender them to him daily. Then acknowledge to God that apart from him we can do nothing.
3. If you make a vow to God, then fulfill it. A fool does a whole lot of talking but doesn’t act upon his words. A fool makes promises to God like, I’m going to pray more. I’m going to go to church more. I’m going to start a Ministry. Sadly, they never do what they say they will. God says if you make a vow fulfill it. Don’t be a fool and just talk about it.
