Ecclesiastes Chapter 2
The American Dream!
King Solomon said he has looked for pleasures that were lasting. He pursued EVERY pleasure his heart desired:
Alcohol. Several homes. Many vineyards. Gardens. Parks. Trees. Built reservoirs. Bought male and female slaves. Several wives. More flocks and herds than anyone. Acquired silver, gold and treasures. Singers. Anything his heart desired, he obtained it. Yet, when all was said and done, he said it was ALL meaningless.
Doesn’t this sound like the American Dream? We strive to have a nice home, nice family, a whole lot of neat toys to play with, lavishing money, living life with friends and alcohol, and acquiring anything we can get our hands on. But once we have it, we realize it’s never fulfilling. We always want one more thing. Always! And everything we get, the pleasure it brings is temporary.
Oh that we would put more emphasis on our relationship with Christ and find pleasure and fulfillment in serving him and serving others. Oh that we would have an ongoing Desire to Learn and Grow in our faith walk so we can be all that God wants us to be for him.
Lord, give me a heart that desires you way more than anything or any pleasure this world has to offer.
