Ecclesiastes Chapter 10
My Goodness, Take A Little Pride In What You Do!
Verse 18 says, “Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.”
This is a great picture of what happens if we’re lazy and don’t take pride in our work. I remember a contractor whose model was, “We gotta get’er done.” Sadly, it got him in trouble more than once. He and his crew of workers were putting a new roof on a house. One crew member said they should do it differently in this one area because he thought it would leak. His boss said just do it the way I told you because we gotta get’er done. It wasn’t long after the job was completed, that it rained and there was a leak.
Laziness can kill the outcome of a project. Not taking pride in your work will do the same. This attitude actually rolls over into all we do: our jobs, our work around the house, our relationships, our marriage, etc. Being a lazy spouse or parent causes a leak in your marriage or your family members. Not taking pride in your responsibilities as a husband, wife, parent, or child, will only result in Brokenness and unresolved issues.
Let each of us take a hard look at ourselves and ask the tough questions. Am I lazy at work or with my relationships? Do I take pride in my work or in how I deal with my relationships? This could be a game changer if we changed our ways.
