Deuteronomy Chapter 26
Don’t Forget to Remember.
God commands the Israelites to offer their first fruits from their crops after entering the promised land. They are to present their first fruits to the priest and remember how Egypt mistreated them, and how when they called out to God in turmoil God heard their voice and delivered them. After 3 years of doing this, they are to take the tithe of their crops and give it to the priest, the stranger, the widows and the orphans. Then God called them to a life of obedience.
May we equally take our financial blessings that God has given to us and tithe a portion to the Lord and the church. May we never forget how God has taken care of us and met our needs. May we never cease to thank him for his blessings but also remember his call to us to be obedient to his Word. Yes, tithing is something we are called to do but may it never take place of the greater call of being obedient to the Lord and his Word.
