Deuteronomy Chapter 21
Stubborn and Rebellious Kids
When I hear of God calling for the stoning to death of a stubborn and rebellious child, it makes me feel God is going a little overboard. I can remember kids who have been extremely rebellious when I was young. I’ve had my stubborn days. My older brother definitely had rebellious days, LOL
Would any of our stubbornness and rebellious behaviors have merited our death? Would we no longer be in existence if this law was enacted 50 years ago?
But as I think about this, it’s a reminder that God is 100% holy and He has 0% of sin in his life. So God can’t tolerate any sin. Not even a little. So may this be a reminder of the following:
1. We must be holy before God.
2. We will fail God with sin.
3. We need forgiveness for sins.
4. Forgiveness can be obtained only through the Forgiveness of Jesus Christ who sacrificed his body for us.
5. So may we repent of our sins and turn to Jesus and allow him to not only forgive us, but also empower us through the Holy Spirit to become more and more holy like Him.
