Daniel Chapter 1
Part 2. Equipped With The World’s Food Or With God’s Food.
I said yesterday that I broke Daniel chapter 1 down into four segments. 1. Qualifications. 2. Being Fed. 3. Growth. and 4. Serving.
Today we are looking at the importance of being equipped to serve the Lord with God’s food and not the world’s food.
When all the boys started to be equipped by the king so they could serve him in his court, they had to eat the King’s food. However, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendigo were four young men who did not want to be equipped by eating food sacrificed to false gods, nor drink hard wine. They had a choice to make. These four men pondered on what was the right thing to do. The Bible says, “Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself with the Royal food and wine.” They wanted to just eat vegetables and drink water and trusted that God would make themselves more healthy than the boys who defiled themselves with the Kings food.
The result was, God did make them more healthy looking. Can you imagine how much more effective we would be for the kingdom, if as Christians, we made the same decision as Daniel. We live in a world that wants to feed us lies so that we are not properly equipped to live out our faith. We are expected to feed on the teachings of our schools and universities that there is no God, and that we’re not created but that we evolved from nothing. Therefore, there are no absolute truths and no morals by which to live by.
I pray that we could all come to the conclusion where we say, I will not defile myself by the world’s food and teachings but will feed on God’s Word daily!!! I will read, study, and memorize God’s word so I become wise and able to articulate God’s truth, being courageous and confident in what I say! I want to live in a manner that demonstrates God’s love so powerfully, yet I don’t compromise my beliefs and actions with what the world is doing. I don’t talk and I don’t act like them, but love them with the truth of Christ.
The ultimate goal is to see people serving the Lord through a relationship with Jesus. But we must be equipped starting by feeding on God’s word. Are you being equipped by God or equipped by the belief system of this world. Be courageous!
