Colossians Chapter 4
Be Watchful and Thankful.
Paul challenges us to devote ourselves to prayer, being both Watchful and Thankful. Watchful means to be alert, not weary, not distracted. It’s easy to get distracted from our faith practice or become complacent with our faith. Both are dangerous. We have to be aware of our spiritual surroundings. What is the devil using today to get us distracted? BE WATCHFUL!
And being Thankful is a repeated message from Paul. It’s also easy to become so self focused on all our own needs and problems that we miss the blessings of God. May we truly be THANKFUL people.
I find it interesting, not that Paul asked for prayer because we all need prayer, but he asked so that others might benefit by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus. He wanted prayer so that he could present the Gospel in such a way that people would come to know the Lord.
I want that type of attitude. I want prayer for myself, not so that I’m the final beneficiary of it, but that others might come to know the Lord as a result of God’s blessing to me. This is definitely a weak area that I struggle with.
