Colossians Chapter 1
For Jesus to be God’s “First born” Does Not Mean Jesus Was Created By God.
God is supreme overall. He bows to no one. Jesus, is God’s son, he was in the beginning with God and he is God. He has God’s supremacy over All!! Jesus is God’s first born. In the old testament, first born meant the son that got all of their fathers inheritance. Jesus, being God’s first born, does not mean he was created by God but that he inherited all of God’s supremacy so that he bows to no one.
Here are some statements written in chapter 1 that declare Jesus as supreme overall.
1. He was God’s firstborn so he inherited it.
2. He created all things so all things yield to him.
3. He holds all things together and controls all. Nothing happens without his knowing so we should be turning to him always in our time of troubles.
4. Is the head of the church.
5. He is the beginning.
6. He’s also the first one to defeat death so he is supreme even over death. And we too, as followers of Christ, can defeat death. Jesus shed His blood for the forgiveness of our sins, and though he died he also resurrected from the dead. We too can be resurrected to a new and eternal life with God, by faith in the ultimate supreme being, Jesus Christ.
Hope this gives you a clear understanding of who Jesus is and that he is the one and only supreme being. The only God we should bow to and turn to for love and life.
