Discipling New Believers
Paul and Barnabas traveled to many cities preaching in their synagogues about Jesus. Each place they went, a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed and followed the Lord. But also at each city they were met with Jews who opposed their teachings. They would stir up others to hate Paul and Barnabas and even stoned Paul till they thought he was dead.
Each opposition did not discourage them from preaching Jesus. In fact they said, “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”
With each opposition and hardship Paul and Barnabas not only kept on preaching, but even returned to the cities where they were threatened, so they could disciple the new believers and encourage them in their faith walk. In fact they spent a lot of time with the new believers.
Some Ministries are able to boast about how many people come to know the Lord, but have no follow-up in helping new believers grow in their faith. Discipling new Christians is important, but having ongoing discipleship for all Christians, new and old, is equally important.
How are you doing in being discipled in your faith walk? Who are you mentoring or discipling in their faith? Perhaps pray and ask God who he’d want you being connected with so you can regularly encourage them in their faith walk.
