Acts Chapter 10
How Would God Describe Me?
God does not show favoritism. He loves all people and makes no distinction between race, nationality, rich or poor, popular or unpopular, male or female, etc. What captures the heart of God are those whose hearts fear Him and obey him. He loves all, including those who hate and disobey him, but when it comes to doing the work of God to reach others for Jesus, he looks for those whose hearts are committed to Him.
Cornelius was a Gentile and a centurion. The Jews were not to associate with them but God told Peter that his love message was for all people.
Cornelius captured God’s attention because he and his family were devout and God-fearing, and gave generously to those in need, and prayed to God regularly.
When God told Cornelius he was sending Peter to come preach to him, Cornelius gathered his friends and family to come hear Peter’s words. Cornelius was a great role model.
I wonder what words God would use to describe me!
– Am I a devout believer, fully committed to following Jesus?
– Am I obedient to God’s word? Does obeying God mean more to me than anything this world has to offer?
– Do I fear God? Does my willful acts of disobedience bother me? Do I have enough of a fear and respect for God that I recognize the consequences I bring up on myself from God that I would want to repent of my sins?
– Is the spiritual well-being of my family and friends important to me that I would want them to hear the good news of Jesus?
– Am I a giving person? Am I more apt to think of me or think of others?
– Am I in communication with God throughout the day or just during that block of 15 minutes I set aside in the morning?
God, help me to daily surrender my heart to you!
