Acts Chapter 1
Preparing for Ministry.
Acts chapter 1 is the introduction of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’s followers for the expansion of the church in the world. Three things are mentioned as they prepared for their coming ministry in sharing the Gospel message of Jesus.
1. Jesus dwelt among them for 40 days to ensure they knew he was alive and to ensure they knew the mission was to reach people for a heavenly Kingdom versus an earthly Kingdom.
2. The followers were to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them.
3. While waiting for God’s timing, they spent a lot of time together praying.
It’s God’s desire to send us out into the world. Oftentimes there are periods of waiting. May we learn from the recent followers of Jesus in what they did during their times of waiting.
1. Do we believe in Jesus? I mean do we REALLY believe he is the son of God who left heaven, came to Earth to die for our sins, and rose again from the dead and now sits at the right hand of God the Father? If we believe in our heart then we’ll want to promote the hope of Jesus to the world. Such passion will not exist, nor will we promote Christ if we don’t REALLY believe.
2. Are you depending upon the Holy Spirit? Or on your own power? Allow the Holy Spirit to use you to the fullest. Keep your heart surrendered to Him daily.
3. May you be a person of Prayer. Not only will we spend time with God In Prayer but spend time with God through his Word. Is that a priority. Making it a priority is a way of communicating to God your dependence upon him and not yourself!
Do you truly believe? Are you filled with the Holy Spirit for his power? Do you spend time with the Lord often?
