Acts 1:9-11
It’s Hard For Me To Comprehend This.
After Jesus gave his final words to his disciples to go into all the world with the Gospel, he was taken up into heaven. He ascended before their very eyes and a cloud hid him from their sight. As his disciples watched intently up in the sky, two men dressed in white suddenly appeared. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky? The same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Jesus allowed so much evil to happen to himself out of love for us, and now, he is asking us to take that love to the world. As we think of Jesus’s Ascension to heaven, two neat thoughts come to my mind:
1. As the physical Jesus ascended, the promised Holy Spirit eventually descended to Earth to dwell within every follower of Christ. It’s hard for me to comprehend the fact that God’d Holy Spirit dwells within me to empower me, teach me, guide me, and even equip me for his work. I can’t understand it, but I am eternally grateful. May I allow the Holy Spirit to keep me busy doing God’s work on Earth till my final days on earth.
2. Just as Jesus ascended into heaven so his Holy Spirit could dwell over all the Earth, so I can look forward to the promise that Jesus will one day return to Earth to gather all the followers of Christ. This thought is even harder to understand because I feel So unworthy of the love of God, but he still offers it to me. So I look forward to, and long for, the day of Jesus’s return so I can be with him forever in heaven. But once again, I want to be found busy doing the work he’s called me to do in order to impact lives for the kingdom.
