Are You Immersed For Fruit Or For Catastrophe?
One day the apostles entered the upper room where they were staying. There were many followers of Christ who were there, approximately 120 of them, including Jesus’ mother and brothers. They all join together in prayer.
Peter stood up and spoke to them saying that scripture had to be fulfilled through Judas who betrayed Jesus. Peter turns to the book of Psalms: Psalms 69:5 and 109:8 that says Judas must lose his place as a disciple amongst the 12 and be replaced by another.
How did they work through the choosing process?
1. Whoever they chose had to be someone who was with Jesus throughout his ministry on Earth. This only makes sense because it needs to be someone who was immersed in Jesus’ teachings and understood what it meant to be a disciple and an apostle of Christ. A disciple is someone who is willing to learn and an apostle is someone who is willing to put into practice what they learn so others can know Jesus.
2. They nominated two men from the group: Barsabbas and Matthias.
3. They prayed for who God wanted.
5. They cast lots and Matthias was chosen.
Do we understand our calling to be an apostle of Jesus? Have we immersed ourselves with God’s Word and the studying of Scripture?
A hospital looking for surgeons isn’t going to be content with someone who studied to be a meteorologist. If they did, what a catastrophe they would have because of several legal issues.
God is calling us to be apostles who reach lost souls. If we aren’t immersed in what that REALLY means, then what an unproductive catastrophe we’d find ourselves in!
I don’t want to be one of God’s chosen apostles that produces catastrophes. I want to be one of God’s chosen who produces fruit for the kingdom of God. Lord help me be immersed in what it REALLY means to be one of your apostles so I can reach lost souls.
