Read John 1:35-39
Are You Willing To Let Go And Let God?
One day, John was traveling with two of his disciples. As Jesus was passing by, John said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the disciples heard this, they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and asked them, “What do you want?” The two responded, “Teacher, where are you staying?” Jesus replied, “Come, and you will see.” So they went with Jesus and spent the day with him.
How exciting that the two disciples wanted to follow Jesus. Why did they? Since they called Jesus, “Teacher” I can’t help but think they knew they could learn something from him. Why wouldn’t they, he was the Messiah!
I wonder how John felt, knowing two of his disciples wanted to leave him for another teacher?!? Spiritually speaking, he had to feel pretty good knowing that he must have done something right because they wanted to follow Jesus. But in his flesh, did he feel a little jealous? Or hurt? “These are MY disciples!”
When we raise our children, or mentor someone, and teach them the way of Jesus, we have to feel pretty good when we see them WANT to follow Jesus!
As a parent, or pastor of a church, it would be a proud moment. You couldn’t help but praise the Lord! But what if God called your children or one of your sheep in the church, to follow Jesus at a different church, or to another country?
Could you let them go, knowing your contact with them would be much less or would you fight to keep them alongside you? Could you let them go so they can experience all God has for them? Let go and let God!
