Read Luke 19:35-40. I Will Not Be Silent!
The disciples brought Jesus the colt he asked for and he rode into Jerusalem to fulfill the prophecy mentioned in Zechariah 9:9 that says, “Rejoice greatly … Shout for joy … Your king comes to you righteous and victorious, lowly and writing on a donkey, on a colt, the foul of a donkey.” This passage reveals Jesus as the Messiah, the awaited King, God’s Son.
The people even began to spread their cloaks before Jesus as a way of acknowledging him as king in their presence as was practiced in the Old Testament (II Kings 9:13).
The people even quoted Psalms 118:26 saying, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” They were acknowledging Jesus as King, the Messiah, the Chosen One to bring redemption.
The Pharisees recognized the people praising Jesus as King, the Messiah. So they told Jesus to rebuke the people. Jesus replied, “If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Jesus was letting it be known that the Messiah was in their midst. His powerful presence cannot be squelched. His authority cannot be knocked down. The praise of God’s people cannot be silenced. His praise will always arise somewhere else if attempts are made to silence those proclaiming Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
What about us? Do we understand that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, God’s chosen one? Does that bring praise to our lips. As people spread their clothes before Jesus, do we lay our hearts and soul before the Lord acknowledge Him as King and Lord of our lives? Do we break out in praise? Or have we allowed the enemy to keep us silent either by fear or by making us so busy we don’t “have time” to lay ourselves before the Lord in surrender? God’s power and authority will always be present, and will always raise up people who are willing to praise him.
Don’t let the things of this world keep you silent and non-committed to God’s call in your life. Stand on his power and authority! And praise Him daily! Don’t keep silent!
