Read Mark 15:33-41 God Wants To Use Us For His Kingdom.
During the death of Jesus on the cross, Mark’s account mentions the following things that happened.
1. From noon to 3:00 p.m. darkness had fallen over the land.
* Christians who get trapped in a sin, eventually find the light of Christ extinguishing in their lives and without intervention darkness/evil will increase in their hearts.
2. At 3:00 in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
* The fact that Jesus said these words is actually a fulfillment of prophecy which gives evidence that he is the Messiah.
* Jesus was quoting from Psalm 22 which describes his suffering and the heavy weight of all of humankind’s sins that he was now dying for the forgiveness of. Thank you Jesus!
3. Some thought Jesus was calling for Elijah so they gave him something to drink and waited to see if Elijah would come and save him.
* They obviously misinterpreted what Jesus was saying.
* God help us to invest into your Word so that we don’t misinterpret it for our benefit but living obedience for your benefit.
4. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
* The pathway for forgiveness of sins was no longer through the sacrifice of animals from the high priest in the holy of holies.
* We now have direct access to the Father for the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ because of the work at the cross.
5. When the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how Jesus died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
* Do we really recognize Jesus as the son of God in our hearts? Or are we just playing a game?
6. Several women were watching from a distance. Many who had supported his needs.
* It’s awesome how the power of God influences men and women alike to be impactful for Jesus.
I pray that we will all have a strong impact for the kingdom for what Jesus did at the cross.
