Part 2 Is It Still Relevant For Today?
Vs 17: Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
Yesterday, for Part 1, we addressed the question how did Jesus fulfill the Law? Today we will address the question, How did Jesus fulfill the Prophets?
What were the Prophets’ message? They foretold the coming of the Messiah, The Chosen one, the Savior of the World. Of all the prophecies (well over 300 of them) mentioned in the Old Testament, Jesus fulfilled all of them. For example, it was prophesied where the Savior would be born, who his forerunner would be, what miracles he would do, how he would die, etc. Jesus fulfilled these prophecies which gives validity that he is the Messiah. Therefore, we must never do away with the history of the prophets, or we would never have evidence that Jesus is the Messiah.
Since Jesus fulfilled all the Law, does that mean that the Law is no longer relevant for today? NO!!
Vs 18: “For truly I tell you, until Heaven and Earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
The Law is essential in helping us realize our sin. It will stay in place until Jesus returns and judgment is completed. After the old Heaven and Earth is destroyed, and the new has come, the Law will not be necessary for there will be no more sin and death.
Knowing this should give us hope for every day. Knowing this should help us look at every day as opportunities to learn, to grow, to be equipped, to serve the Lord and others.
