2nd Samuel Chapter 7
Don’t Lose Focus
God greatly blessed King David as king and gave him peace from all his enemies. As David pondered all that the Lord had done for him and through him, he realized he lived in an eloquent home while God’s Ark was inside a tent. So David had a vision of building an eloquent home for God’s Ark to be in. God spoke to David about this vision and said it would come about but not through him but through his son Solomon. But God reminded David of all the great things he had done in and through his life, and that he still had great things he was going to fulfill through him.
Instead of David being upset about not being chosen to build God’s Temple, David praised God for how he had used him and how he would continue to fulfill other promises through him.
Let us not lose focus. God has done great things in and through our lives. He still has more things to accomplish in and through us. You might have a vision of something “great,” but it might be a vision God will fulfill through someone else. Don’t think so much about what God is going to do through someone else, or is doing through someone else, that you lose focus of what God wants to do in and through you NOW.
The more we focus on what we wished we were doing, like someone else, the less attention we put on what God wants to do in and through us. Don’t lose focus!
And by the way, that one “great” thing God wants to do through you might be as simple as stopping what you are doing and help your parents or your spouse with a need they have.
