2nd Samuel Chapter 4
Where’s the Respect?
When Saul’s son, Ishbosheth, King over the 11 tribes of Israel, heard that his Commander of his army died, he became afraid of David. When his two military leaders also heard of the news, they also feared David so they killed their King while he slept. They then took his head to David as a way of saying you don’t have to worry about us fighting against you any longer.
But once again, we see the level of respect David had for the leaders of Israel despite their differences. David was angered how the men killed the king while he slept.
Why are people in our nation becoming less and less respectful of others? We have disrespect in the workforce and disrespect where people’s ideologies don’t match up. As a result we have wars, riots and destruction because of it. Everyone wants to justify their disrespect but God will bring judgment upon those who disrespect others.
Who do you disrespect? Can you justify it? If so, be careful, lest you also face judgment from a just and fair God. We should be role models for others to follow. You can disagree with others, even debate with them, and do it without being disrespectful.
