2nd Samuel Chapter 23
Not Everyone Knows My Name.
This chapter mentions 37 of David’s most mighty Men who are skilled beyond measure with great ability to fight, defend, and kill their enemies. Everybody’s names were mentioned except three men. These men went to get water from a well surrounded by the Philistine so they could get a cup of water for their king. Although their names weren’t mentioned, they were the standard by which most all the others were compared to. We know the names of those who weren’t as great but we don’t know the names of the three who were amazing fighters.
This reminds me of something Jesus said when it came to giving. Matthew 6:1-4 Jesus says when you give don’t do it to receive praise from men but do it to receive praise from God. Those who do something so that others recognize them and praise them receive their reward. Their reward is the praise of men which lasts temporarily. But those who do something merely for God’s pleasure, not concerned that others know what they did and not even concerned that people know their name, will receive reward from God that is eternal.
Don’t worry if everybody doesn’t know your name and know of all the great things you have done for the Lord, for the Lord knows and that’s what really counts.
Do you do things to be recognized by others and receive their praise? Or are you okay with what you do is only recognized by God who rewards us in heaven?
