2nd Samuel Chapter 20
Jealousy is Evil.
In this chapter we see a lot of drama going on as individuals fight for power. You have Sheba revolting against David’s kingship because he wants to be king instead. You have Joab jealous over Amasa because King David demoted Joab and put Amasa as the new commander of David’s army.
Sheba ended up being killed because of his jealousy and disrespect toward God’s chosen king, David. Joab, in his jealousy, killed Amasa so he could regain his position as Commander over David’s army.
How do we handle jealousy? How do we treat those who we are jealous of? We may not kill them as Joab did with Amasa, but we may gossip about them. We may even isolate ourselves from them so as to have nothing to do with them. We do them no physical harm but we don’t respect them in their position they have acquired. You don’t murder them, so congratulations because murder is a sin. But so is jealousy and disrespect toward others.
When Jesus said to love others including our enemies, he didn’t say unless you are jealous of them. So let us pray for those we are jealous of versus resorting to gossip or lack of respect. Have a Blessed Day!
