2nd Samuel Chapter 19
Are You Moving Forward With Joy Or Staying Stagnant In Sadness?
After King David’s men defeated and killed their adversaries, including David’s son Absalom, he mourned over his son’s death rather than rejoice over the victory. This gave the impression to his followers that:
1. David loved those (Absalom) who hated him, and hated those (his followers) who loved him.
2. That David would have been happier if all his followers died, if only his son Absalom could have lived.
Joab confronted David and told him he should be rejoicing that his followers lives were saved and moving forward because of this victory, versus staying stagnant and in misery.
I remember over the years, individuals who were on fire for the Lord and were such a blessing in church ministry. But over time some became reattached to the “pleasures of this world” resulting in them no longer serving the Lord. It broke my heart. I had one individual even lie to me when I confronted them. The person refused to apologize and even made up a bigger lie and told it to others so it made me look bad and the individual look good. It hurt! Eventually the person left the church and others felt bad but acknowledged that they knew this individual was in the wrong.
God is always wanting to move forward in Ministry in order to build his church. Some will jump on board and join the adventure while others will walk away. We can’t let those who walk away destroy our hearts for moving forward. Yes, feel sad, pray for the individual, but don’t miss out on the plans God has to keep building his church. Don’t let misery keep you stagnant, rather keep moving forward in Christ to build his church.
