2nd Samuel Chapter 13
It’s Hard Not To Seek Revenge!
King David had different sons from different wives. This one son, Amnon, loved his sister Tamar but was not able to capture her heart. So he tricked David into thinking he was sick and asked for Tamar to come in and fix him something to eat and feed him.
When Tamar and Amnon we’re alone, he begged her to have sex with him. But she refused saying it was a sin and said get King David’s blessing for the two to be married and then enjoy their relationship together.
But instead Amnon let his lust override her desires and he raped her.
When Tamar’s closest brother, Absalom, heard the news of what Amnon did to her, he was full of hate toward Amnon.
As his hatredness grew over two years, Absalom sought revenge and had Amnon killed.
When we want something bad enough, are we willing to disrespect someone to get it. I don’t mean rape someone, even though that happens. I mean some other form of disrespect?!?
Children: Do you ever want something bad enough that you beg and plead until you wear down your parents so you get what you want refusing to respect their truest desires for you?
Peers: Perhaps you take something from a peer because you think you deserve it. Or you show power over someone by getting a group of your peers to humiliate the other.
Revenge: Perhaps it’s you or a close friend who was disrespected and you let hate enter your heart and revenge is all you think about. Be careful that you don’t end up disrespecting someone because of your hatredness.
Yes, seek Justice through the proper authorities but God says in Romans 12:17-19 that leave the revenge to him because his revenge will be fair and just.
Don’t let arrogance enter your heart thinking that your revenge is justifiable. Be careful!
