2nd Kings Chapter 20
I Hate To Say It, But We’re All Going To Die And Leave This Earth.
The day we leave this earth is uncertain. And how we leave is uncertain. No one can elude death. It comes in different forms. Some will die in their sleep, some because of being murdered, some from sickness, some from an accident, and the list goes on and on.
In this chapter, King Hezekiah came down with a sickness and was told he would die so to get his life in order. As a result, the King prayed to God and wept bitterly asking for healing. God told King Hezekiah he would heal him and would add 15 years to life. Does everyone who prays for healing become healed? Sadly, No! Does that seem fair? Perhaps Yes, Perhaps No…but who are we to question God and his plans? God never promised eternal life on this Earth. He only promised eternal life in heaven. He promised that death awaits everyone and because we know that in advance we have to be ready at all times. We have to keep our lives in order by being faithful to the Lord daily. God is sovereign meaning God is fair. His plans and ways are above ours so it’s hard to understand them.
Because death is promised we should not be shocked when a loved one dies. Yes, we will be sad and shed tears and miss them but we shouldn’t be shocked that death came upon them. We should be more shocked if we did nothing spiritually to help them prepare for the death that we know is one day coming.
Listen, I hate death, I cry when death occurs but I’m learning that this life on Earth is temporary. And because I realize that, I’m wanting to do more and more and more and more to share the GOSPEL so when people die, I can somehow have an impact on their lives spiritually so they can enter eternity in heaven versus entering hell for eternity.
